The annual BIRC event is staged at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena. FES rowers complete the same 2,000 m race distance as their non-injured athletes. In 2005, a new category was added for SCI athletes who were not using FES. This is known as the Fixed-seat rowing category and is raced over a distance of 1,000 m.
