Community Rowing Inc, Boston

 

Community Rowing Inc. (CRI), based on the Charles River, was founded in 1985 as a non-profit organisation "dedicated to the belief that the sport of rowing provides unique abilities to promote personal and community growth through teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness." CRI are committed to making these opportunities available to all, with one of the largest rowing programs in the United States with over 5,000 people rowing annually. Recently, CRI in partnership with ExPD, offers FES rowing at several locations in the  Greater Boston metropolitan area. CRI also offers free adapted (fixed seat) and FES rowing programmes to serving US military personnel or veterans.

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston

 
The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, in collaboration with Professor Andrew Taylor, Director of the Cardiovascular Research Laboratory at Harvard Medical School Hospital and Spaulding Rehab, established an FES rowing study and training programme in 2008. The Taylor Group have since established the Exercise for Persons with Disabilities (ExPD) FES rowing programme at Spaulding Rehab. The ExPD program provides suitable exercise activities for health, leisure and sport for people with disabilities such as spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and peripheral neuropathy. The program specialises in FES rowing for individuals with Spinal Cord Injury and is based at several locations in the Greater Boston metropolitan area.
