Talking FES
This section introduces Talking FES, a consultation service for people with neurological deficit such as spinal cord injury (SCI). The focus is cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health with an emphasis on Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) to help mitigate secondary health conditions.
The service will include guidance, recommendations, and advice from peer reviewed studies on cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health, appropriate exercise modalities, assessment of response to FES, and appropriate currently available equipment.
The service will also include deep tissue massage to help elevate asymmetric muscle tone, muscle soreness or joint pain, while generally improving circulation and lymphatic return.
Uploads
Each upload will be presented as a part of a series covering cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health following complete SCI as a worst case scenario. Some overlap between the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal posts will be inevitable, but hopefully this will help reinforce understanding.
First up, a series of posts discussing the underlying cause of impaired cardiovascular health. The second series discusses the efficacy of current treatment strategies to mitigate these conditions. The impact of complete SCI on the musculoskeletal system will follow using a similar format.
The contents of each post will be based on a précis of current peer reviewed studies. These studies will be cited in parentheses at the end of each statement.
